This includes the renting, leasing or purchasing land of retired operators to keep land in farming instead of being turned into housing or commercial development.

Keystone Potato Products processes non-potable water from underground abandoned mines into potable water used for food production processing in the plant. Using this water decreases the amount of acid mine drainage that escapes the mine and reduces damage to local streams.
KPP also connects via pipeline to an adjacent landfill. We utilize the methane gas extracted from the landfill to generate steam for a boiler that powers many of the plants heating, peeling, cooking and drying operations.

Having three unique crops builds organic matter levels in the soil, as the unharvested crop cover returns nutrients and carbon to the soil — directly reducing the amount of fertilizer needed for the crop.
